I've heard good things about Schecter, I played a mid ranged one and I thought it was a good solid guitar. Sort of like a Les-Paul type tone with a bit more brightness. The build quality was also very good.

The Schecter Black Jacks look pretty good. Thru-neck and Seymour Duncans and the guitars go for £400. Saying that, I've yet to try one out.

I'm not looking to spend more than £500 either, so the Shecter's I've looked at would be quite good.

Aye, can't fault them on price anyway. I think Sound Control carry them more so than any other places.

I got my Schecter at Sound Control. Mine sounds "thicker" than the Jackson's i had in the past but that is probably due to the Schecter having better pick ups than the bog standard Jackson pick ups. £599 and what a fine ornament it makes

I've been playing a Jackson RR-3 for the past few years and it's the biggest piece of shit ever. I'm never getting any type of Floyd Rose ever again in my life.

Jacksons are shit in my opinion, unless you want to spend your college fund for a mega-high end one.

I had a Maverick F3 and I guess i'm just used to uber thin necks. I mean, the neck was almost as thin as the fretboard.

I think i'm going to go with a Jeff Loomis Signature Schecter. It's got: 7 Strings, Maple Fretboard/Headstock, EMG pups (the only bad thing about it) an original floyd 7 and 24 fret/26.scale neck.

But that's only if I can find another £100, otherwise who knows. A guy I know who runs Piney Hills in the US has got a 7 string Hellraiser in for me but i'd rather get a Blackjack because they have binding and better pickups (well.. they have normal pickup cavity space so I could stick a BKP in there in time).
