No one from the north of England should ever say 'mother-fucker'.

I can't think of many swear words I don't use, but that is definitely one of them. I use 'cunt' almost every day, because there are a lot of cunts in my life, but other than that I've done a 180 degree turn and reverted back to the primary school favourites, such as 'fanny'. Nothing funnier than calling someone a fanny.

But that's the thing; American swearing is just piss-poor compared to how 'we' swear. You really don't need to swear at all really. You can be far more vulgar by talking about wanting to eat a lassie's gape than by using any widely-acknowledged swearword.

P.S. do you use fudd as well as fanny?

Rarely. Only when talking about one, I'd rarely ever call someone a fudd. Simple combinations can be more offensive than most swear words too, such as 'vinegar-tits'. Girls do not like being called 'vinegar-tits'.

We're more fond of ah-bollocks and eeeh-that's-shite and y-fuckin'cock, would sound terrible in songs though.

Worst "hey, I'm cool" swear word in a song - James Blunt "She could see by my face I was... fucking high" makes me wanna retch.

I remember a quote from Extras which made me laugh. "I'm fudding myself stupid and I'm bloody loving it." I might put that in a song.

But really, I've never sworn in a song because I've never felt the need to, apart from in a 'comedy' song I wrote for my other band called Deaf From Rock 'n' Roll. And that was supposed to be a piss-take anyway of songs that go on about how great rock is. I thought it was quite funny. But sometimes if someone like Donny or Caps will swear in a song, I'll say well done because it's necessary and they'll mean it. But when Robb Flynn swears, I'll call him a retard and a twat.

I voted no - most people have summed it up already, it can be effective if used sparingly, but it's no substitute for some cool thought out lyrics, and it usually reminds me of Pantera style macho-metal.

Good if it's used to imply the feelings of the lyrics... most 80s thrash is prime examples, with barely any swearing, but when they do swear you don't really notice it, because they aren't doing it to say 'yeah, we can swear' or something thats already been said that sounded like that,,,

Yeah I think they're cool when they're not overused or not swearing to sound "cool". I think some bands do it to aim at the younger audience, who can then say to their friends "hey, look how cool I am, my music has swearing in it". But yeah, when it's done right it can be used to good effect.

I think swearing in songs has a good effect if it's a comedy song awell, like mixing swear words up that usually wouldn't go together, like erm, "Twat Shitter"... Also, when bands use the word "bollocks" in a song, that makes me laugh.

Swearing sounds fucking wank in rap songs though. I hate that shit.

Finally, people who refer to swearing as "cussing" or "curse words" are fucking major gays!

I want to use the phrase "shitting hell" in a song. I might do that. Or 'bloody hell' will do.

I said "pissing fuck" to myself once when I dropped a plectrum, and found that phrase really funny.
