Some of them look like they're doing keep fit exercises and a few look like they're doing Turk's happy dance from Scrubs.

I saw Hatebreed supporting Anthrax at The Astoria a few years ago and the pit was fucking brutal. You had a full on hardcore pit (which made that one look like a sunday school picnic) followed by a total thrash pit.
One lot set out to cause as much damage as possible to everyone within elbow and foot range while the Thrax fans just threw themselves around with stupid grins on their (our) faces, just out for a good time.

Thrash pits>>>>>Hardcore pits.

The best type of pit? Arm-pits.

Hardcore pits :wall: :wall:

I really don't agree with violent mosh pits, by violent I mean people getting punched/elbowed/kicked, pushing is fine because that's pretty much unavoidable, as long as no one gets hurt it all good. I went in one of the smaller circle pits for DevilDriver at Download (and the big one of course!) and some cunt who was standing at the side punched me right in the stomach and winded the fuck out of me, I'm so pissed off I didn't just turn round and punch him right in his face. I also went in the Slayer pit for their whole set, and everyone was like "whoa man Slayer pits are insane", but it was fine, everyone helped eachother back up like good boys, and it was just fun, no one intentionally hurting eachother. Tbh, I don't even know if there's a certain way to be in a mosh pit, and tbh I don't really care, I just wanna have fun!

to be fair 90% of hardcore pits aren't like that. Just some bands attract windmillers and stuff.

It reminds me of that dance club Mark and Jez had to go to in Peep Show...

I really don't understand pits like that. To me, moshing or whatever you want to call it, is the spontaneous venting of teen angst. Walls of Death and muckle circle pits totally undermine this. It's time for someone to come up with a new way of showing their gratitude towards the band on stage - standing at the bar with a pint whilst nodding your head works for me.

I prefer watching pits from a far now just to watch the token bald, 19 stone lard-arse patrol the chaos like some kind or flabby prison warden. And another thing, why pay to see a band if you're going to spend half the night looking at flabby man-tits
