Political Thrash Message

Postby William Morton on Sat Feb 02, 2008 12:45 am

I saw Megadeth in Folkestone a little bit back and Dave singled out a guy in the crowd, telling him to shut up while he was talking or something - then in the ensuing silence told us "This shit in palastine... it's gonna involve us all" or something like that... Politics n' Thrash... Good or bad?

We just want to hear some great riffs and make it feel personal right?
No 'world issues bullshit'? Surely no one really ends up being changed by all that?

The people writing the songs don't even really care right?

Having something to say is cool but when a band tries preaching political shit to me like their word is final? Fuck that.

The same Dave Mustaine that once respectfully dedicated a song to "The Cause"?
Oh dear, oh dear.

Dave used to be cool - when he was our age and had something to say about politics. Now, the guy is a multi-millionaire, has a model as a wife and lives on a ranch - the boy can't keep applying his old grievances to current political matters. He needs to grab a chair and keep quiet.

Yeah I would agree, I don't like preachy music.

Nuclear Assault were cool because they had opinions on the world and had important shit to say, which they did through their lyrics not by preaching on stage. Sacred Reich were the same and these are two bands I have great respect for because they are writing about stuff that matters to them.

What I hate is people like Mustaine who talk political bullshit because they have no real problems in life.

It was a good lil speech said in Kent, he went on to say that "With all the shit that goes on in the world we really do only have this moment", then launched into Holy Wars.

I think it's good for a band to have something to say. Not everyone has to get political and it does annoy when people jump on the Bush Hate bandwagon because they think they'll be able to get some cheers from the crowd. But when people actually know what they're talking about, it can be worth paying attention to. Too many bands just don't have anything to say anymore. I also agree that a band (or, more to the point, anyone) shouldn't preach and force their opinion on anyone, but at the same time if there's no passion then it's meaningless. Everyone should go and see STD when they start gigging more regularly to see what I mean. When he's not running around naked, our Caps is a great man.
