Man, you are on thin ice there!!!!! Cliff was an awesome bass player!!! He was an awsome character and personified the "dont give a fuck" attitude that was part of the early thrash attitude. Have you not listened to Anasthesia??? Have you watched Cliff 'em all??? He had a unique style and played a bass like it had never been played before. It isnt all about technical ability, even though he had that by the ton, but it was his attitude!!!! Man you should really be ashamed for that comment!!!! :(

Sod off!

Cliff was a fucking hippy!

So what if he wrote a waltz? Like I say to anyone who rates Cliff Burton, if you want a waltz listen to Strauss. I mean, Anaesthesia is undoubtedly the gayest track on Kill 'em All and To Live Is To Die almost makes me vomit blood; it really is that boring!

I don't really care about attitude TBH. I'd rather just listen to good music and not have to exude 'Thrash 'til death'-style sentiments all the time.

Bassists should know their fucking role and just play root notes. Dusty Hill, now he is a bassist.

Infidel!! Heretic!! Blasphemer!!

As for bassists only playing root notes, what about Steve Harris?? What about Les Claypool??? What about Flea?? I respect your views on many posts here but you really are talking serious crap this time buddy!!!

Primus suck and The Red Hot Chili Peppers haven't done anything worth-while since The Uplift Mofo Party Plan and that's a different kettle of fish seeing as that's border-line funk.

Perhaps it would be better if Steve Harris did stick to root notes a bit more seeing as there is nothing cooler than twin guitars playing in harmony with a descending bass line. Thankfully Adrian Smith is in Maiden so it's against Atkinson's Third Law that a bad song can be written.

I agree that the RHCP havent done anything worthwhile for ages, but for me it was probably mothers milk, as for primus, their first two albums are awesome, and sailing the seas of cheese was okay too. So if a bass is a valid contributary instrument in funk and metal, why cant it be in thrash??? As for you saying aneasthesia is the gayest track on kill em all, it isnt strictly meant as a track, it is what it is : a bass solo, and cliff was doin those solos even before he joined Metallica, so you cant judge it against the other tracks on the album. Cliff was a hero for a whole thrash generation and you will never change opinions on that, so while i respect your right to have your views, those views are still utter dogshit!!! END OF!!!

I don't know primus. RHCP do indeed suck, but you can't deny that flea is a good bassist.
When it comes to bassists in metal, you can't beat the cannibal corpse bass player and the atheist bassist. Awesome.

I assume you mean Roger Patterson and not Tony Choy, although both are uber-immense. RIP Roger :rockdevil:

P.S. Cliff burton owns

I'm suprised that nobody's mentioned:

INQUISITION SYMPHONY by Sepultura
MARCH OF THE S.O.D. by some band who's name I can't remember (lmao omg rolf) S.O.D.
INTRO TO REALITY - by Anthrax

and erm, most GoreBastard songs since I don't get chance to do vocals very often.......

Yeah, he was a 'tard. Anyways, best instrumental ever is To Storm The Cyclopean Gates Of Byzantium by Bal-Sagoth.

King Diamond - Them. I do love that track, so much i was bothered to learn it and play it shitty.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Thank the Police coming straight from the underground...
