Not really; she stole a car and then dissented whilst under arrest. I've already said I disagree with the need to punch her in the head when she's already been restrained but we should hardly be surprised that she was smacked about a bit. What else should be expected, the policeman to put her arm round her and say, 'There there! Grand Theft Auto isn't that serious a crime'?

Does it really have to be one extreme or the other? A hug and a kiss or a savage beating, is that the choice the police have to make when they get some shoes kicked at them by a kid?

To be fair, it's not as if Britain has anywhere as rough as LA or New York. I think the police in America have to be trained to incorporate a bit of violence into their jobs because they are far more likely to be killed than their British counterparts. They just get a bit carried away sometimes and decide that beating up minorities and teenage girls isn't pushing it a bit.

Still, I don't think anyone should expect to get away with dissent whilst under arrest. Should they, however, expect to be pinned down and punched in the back of the head? No.

If arrested for stealing a car? Probably piss their pants and worry about their long-term job prospects given that they now have a criminal record.

Indeed. I know it wasn't exactly a savage beating, I was just trying to get across the point that he should've just used a bit of restraint, whatever she was doing. Perhaps the point that Rik was trying to make too. She may have been a ruffian saying Nee at her own free will to passers by, that needed a good beating, however that policeman deserves the same punishment a civilian would face for doing that to a 15-year-old girl, ruffian or not. He shouldn't get away with abusing his power, just as she shouldn't get away with stealing a car.

If, however, he had done the same thing to a paedophile, I may have contradicted myself entirely.

I'd just like to see where the law lies in this instance. The guy hit a 15-year-old girl but that girl was probably a crack whore anyway. The two may well cancel each other out.

If a 15 year old girl stole my car, I'd shag her mental. That'd put a stop to her criminal activities.
