Difficulty In Songwriting

I've written riffs that other metal guitarist couldn't play... That's probably down to them being faggots though.
There's one riff I've got with my band that's all over the place, and I can only play it by downpicking. Then my arm nearly falls off because it's too fucking fast. :doh:

I think it was Devin Townsend who said that you should really be good enough on the guitar to be able to transcribe what you're thinking of in your head onto the guitar, whether thats amazingly intriquate lead work, or just a shit E rhythm.

And that's what I'm aiming at, at the moment. Not really about writing new songs, just getting better.

Sekhmet stuff (some of Mikes fills, coupled with the timing involved) was ridiculously hard to play when I started learning.. now it's easy. Practice more.

I only write easy stuff because I can't be bothered. You'll notice that 'Saltergate' is largely 3 chords.

I write a lot so tend to tailor the riffs to what the song needs, ie chorus simple and catchy and mid-sections more tricky.its a good idea to test yourself by writing more complex stuff tho.
