Bugger, I've got a cold
Having avoided feeling ill all winter, I've now got a damned cold or man flu. I've been trying this new method of cold avoidance I saw in the paper and it's worked up until now. All I want to do is go to bed but I'm at work until 9am tomorrow so fat chance. Sniff.

Elephant doses of Vitamin D.
One of the reasons we don't get so many colds in the summer is not because we are not huddling together for warmth like we do in the winter, it is sunlight. We make Vitamin D when we are exposed to the sun, and it is linked with the immune system.
The idea goes that if we take massive amounts of Vit D for three days at the beginning of a cold it either reduces it's length or stops it developing altogether. I've only found it in pill form with Calcium but having spoke to a Doctor I know he says any excess Calcuim in our diet is simply lost through the kidneys, he also says that the whole idea is a pile of crap!
I've been taking pills from Tesco (in a blue and white container if you want to try it yourself) and I'm on six of the buggers a day and it seems to work. Perhaps it's a placebo effect but I've not had a serious cold all winter until now. A few sniffles that go away in a few days.
If anyone else has a go please let me know what you think. The study that the idea comes from was published in Nature magazine, which is a respected scientific journal, so it's not some quack idea.
