Sometimes I listen to Tool all day and then follow it up with a bit of Opeth and Porcupine Tree, smoke a joint and then sit there going 'woah........amazing.....woah'.....then i realise what an idiot im being

You've just described my life! Well, apart from the joint bit, that only happens every now and again...

Talking of Porcupine Tree, I had two new tracks off their album the other day (the first one and the last one). They were good, but not as amazing as I hoped they would be. Still should be an excellent album though.

They have an album overview on their myspace, from what ive heard of it i think it definatly sounds better live when i saw them play all of it last year at the astoria but i think it will be a good album....at least i hope its as good as i hope....

Btw are you going to go to their gig at the forum on the 26th of april? else it looks like i'll be all alone there :(

I'd really love to see them, but I haven't got much money at the moment, and that's also right near the end of my final year at uni and I've got loads of work to do... still, i haven't ruled it out yet. If I managed to get a few shifts in at the pub over the easter holidays, I might get myself a ticket if they're not sold out. I need to see them playing Arriving Somewhere live, it would be the best thing in the world! Well, apart from Tool and Opeth live anyway.

My band want to cover a song by Tool called Anemia or something. I always try and change the subject when they bring it up.

I thought I'd resurrect this thread as I'm listening to Disposition at the moment. What a bloody amazing song. I bloody love Tool's lovely songs, all the great percussion and all sorts, just bloody lovely.

Anyone seeing them live in August? I most certainly am. Even if it's the same set I've seen twice already (with minor changes here and there), it'll still be the best gig of my life.

they are amazing really. I'm not quite as mad as june of stu but they are a really really great band, especially live (if you know the songs!).

they took me ages to really "get" but i do really like them, they certainly connect to my prog side... defiantely not near the thrash side of things.. although recently they have been claiming to have taken a lot of influence from Meshuggah (although i would imagine they mean the later less thrashy Meshuggah stuff).

anyway, if anyone is interested in discovering more about Tool, i would suggest getting a copy of 10,000 Days, its a great album - and slightly more accessable than Lateralus (although Lateralus is slightly better... possibly) - and is a great starting point for anybody who wants to discover the power of TOOL. also 10,000boys is packaged in the most amazing CD cover you've ever seen, none of that standard CD case madness, this is made from thick card with a bloody set of glasses set into it, you use these special glasses to view the album artwork, and when viewed correctly the artwork turns 3D. its such a nice little thing, but really makes the album worth buying just for that alone!

I'd actually argue that Lateralus is perhaps more accessible than 10,000 Days. It's a bit more of a 'colourful' album, a bit more variation and therefore a bit easier to listen to. I reckon 10,000 Days would be a bit more difficult to listen to for a Tool beginner (or n00b, if you will). Especially with a song like Rosetta Stoned, that's a song of madness and is definitely more challenging than anything off Lateralus. Saying that, I think think Lateralus is the better album, although for me there isn't much difference between the two. They're both the best two albums ever created by a man. Or four men.

I tried really hard to get into Tool, but for some reason it didn't click.

Yeah, I think it's probably too cerebral for me!

Joking aside I tried to get into Aenima, Lateralus and Undertow and none of them did much for me. I like plenty of proggy stuff, and even some of the more groovy stuff that I suppose is comparable to Tool, and I feel like I'm missing out on something, but I just can't get it.

Lateralus is amazing. 10,000 Days is nowhere near as good. I lost my Lateralus about 2 years ago bought it again about two months ago and when I got home there was no CD in the case. What a cunt!
