Jamie's post, whilst slightly retardedly written, was correct.

And I recommend starting with IV. Then go on to II. Then I. Then you will have a full beginner's enjoyment of the Zeppelin way, so then go onto III, which is more acoustic and nice. Then it's time for the harder albums to get into. Start with Houses Of The Holy, because The Song Remains The Same and Rain Song and No Quarter will blow your mind. Then get Presence, because Achilles Last Stand will make you orgasm, it's basically an unbelievable metal song. Then go for Physical Graffitti, and your life will be complete. Ignore Coda and In Through The Out Door (the latter being the only Zeppo album I don't own but I have heard it and can't be bothered to buy it). Then to summarise how amazing Zeppelin are, get How The West Was Won, and cry in disbelief at how amazing it is.

nah, zep arent metal at all. they're much harder to properly get into than Sabbath which is why the n00bs on here (4th gayman) cant handle them ;)

a fair point, they have a lot more variation, but they are undeniably purveyorz of all things heavy metal, take robert palmers package for example. i'd be scared to, its huge!

go for "how the west was won"; fully live triple CD, pretty much all their best songs and the best example i've heard of what made them special (for me at least); being one of the most solid and exciting live bands i've ever heard. the sheer level of musical communication between the 4 of them is virtually unparalleled in anything else i've ever listened to. plus bonham's drumming on the opening "immigrant song" is nothing short of absolutely f'cking disgusting \m/

I disagree 100% and was about to post this before I noticed your post:

Remember how LZ have never played well live, ever?

I remember watching the DVD that sort of accompanied the How the West Was Won release from a few years back and just being struck at how shit they were live. I mean, blame the drugs if you like but many other bands' finest performances came whilst they were up to their eyes in coke and smack.

fair enough, but i thought the dvd/cd were pretty awesome! some of jimmy's solos are a bit directionless but the overall groove and jamming is sweet.

What on earth? Literally... what on earth? Never played well live? I can't believe it.

Do people on here really not like them, or are they just trying to look cool? How can you not like Zep? Quite seriously I think you people that put them down to the extent you do are either mad or lying.

Their live performances make me laugh so hard. Absolutely dreadful. I actually get enraged watching them perform. Just thinking..."They're getting paid how much to make these annoying noises?"

It's all good when they're playing the songs, but then it just descends into some wasted guy doing the same thing for 10 minutes :P

Also, I think they are over-rated, if not solely for the fact they just copied loads of older songs and used them as their own!!! hahaha

Robert Plant. Funnily enough, I made the exact same mistake on an essay I did about the history of the electric guitar in my first year of uni. I don't know why I typed Palmer instead of Plant, but I did. And I felt like a right plonker when I got my essay back and my lecturer pointed it out in the feedback.

I am not a plonker.

And now, Led Zeppelin are legendary. And don't start saying 'ooh they ripped off everything', because it doesn't matter. Some of Zeppelin's riffs were indeed variations on older blues riffs. But that was intentional, they've never made a secret of that, Plant himself said that's just what blues is, and Zeppelin saw themselves primarily as a blues rock band (I read all this when I studied them). But they also had a hell of a lot of originality and definitely were part of the pioneering of the heavy metal genre, even though they weren't exactly heavy metal themselves. Bloody hell, just listen to Achiles Last Stand. And if you are a fan of heavy metal, actually if you are a fan of music, you should at least be able to respect and appreciate what Zeppelin have done for the world, even if they're actual music doesn't do much for you.

EDIT: Oh, and those who claim Zeppelin were crap live are blind and deaf.
