i smoke, i have done for years, i dont like the fact that i smoke but it is an additction. just the same way people are additcted to shit like Heroin and Mc Donalds etc, it is just as hard to quit! i have wanted to give up for a long time but have never had the will power to bring myself to do it.i totally agree with Caps, these sorts of laws and legistration are utterly stupid and are just basically taking the piss out of the general publics inteligence and comon sense.

i do want to quit and i hope that because of the smoking ban, i will finally have the push and will be able to give up. but i am not happy that this decision has been forced upon me by the government.

Indeed, I see your point completely; as a non smoker I obviously don't want to smoke and will enjoy not having to breathe in second hand smoke every day, but I don't agree at all with the government basically making it illegal (apart from outside of course). It's a tough one to decide on though really for me, because if you stop smoking and live longer because of this, along with the rest of my friends who smoke, I'd obviously be very happy. But there's something very wrong with the way it's being done - like you say, it's being forced upon you by the government which isn't what this country's supposed to be about, is it? You have the right to smoke. I have the right to not have smoke breathed in my face. What do we do about it? I don't know, but taking everyone's right to smoke away from them, I don't really agree with that. Imagine if the government decided to ban alcohol as well to prevent liver damage and drunken madness. Yeah, lots of people's lives may be saved... but would all the non smokers agree with that? I sincerely doubt it. I certainly bloody well wouldn't. I say increase the amount of non-smoking areas in pubs. Give pubs and restaurants the choice to be completely non-smoking if they want (of course many restaurants already are and have been for ages), but don't force them to do it. Now of course, then you would say pubs won't ever become completely non-smoking if it's up them because they'd lose business, which is probably true. But what do you do? Bloody hell, basically. Just put more non-smoking areas in.

However, your point about the general public having intelligence... well, I disagree with that. Try working in WHSmith for three years, and you'll see what I mean.

to be honest i'm pretty much all for it, i don't like smelling of smoke after gigs or pub trips and i'd rather not have it passively affecting my health.(the point was made about being a hypocrite to complain about this if your someone who drinks alcohol, but the thing is i want to drink alcohol and enjoy doing so and the damage that does to me is my own fault)

Won't have to much longer. I suppose it's only logical to see it happen.

Yeah, it's probably a good thing, but the amount of self-righteous twats who harp on about how 'excited' they are about it is stupid.

Yeah, like it's gonna make a great difference to their social life. Congratulations, you'll wake up stinking of beer, sweat and puke instead of cigarettes. Nice.

Having lived with the ban for about a year or whatever I can say that personally it has made a major difference. Me and my brother dont smoke and hate the stuff and when we used to go out we were subjected to inhaling all this pish that our friends smoked. It was horrid, so much better now that is gone. But yeah i agree more often than not i still wake up stinking of kebab!!

That is fucking legendary, I must take up smoking before the ban kicks in so that I can attempt it.
