Anthrax indeed!

Postby jonny_boy34 on Tue Apr 10, 2007 6:07 pm

Yes, I've finally got round to getting hold of a copy of an Anthrax album, I've been wanting to try and get into them for ages now. I'm a bit of a thrash n00b you see. But thanks to Jamie I finally now have a copy of Among The Living. And what a treat for the face it is! I love it, it's so much bloody fun. I Am The Law and Indians were my initial favourites, all the bloody fun you can imagine in your life. I've only listened to it a couple of times at the moment though, so soon I shall get to know the album and dance around my room every day. I think this will be the album that finally gets me into proper thrash (ie. stuff that isn't Megadeth, Metallica or Slayer). Wonderful. I have copies of an Exodus and a Sabbat album somewhere in my room at uni (Bonded by Blood and A History of Time In Your Face or something), so I'll have to listen to those again now, and hopefully I'll enjoy it more. Lovely stuff!

Well, I think Among The Living got me away from all those metallica albums. But it made such an impression when I first heard it. A true classic. Shame they are all cunts these days. FUCK YOU SCOTTY.

Fistful of Metal is still the best 'thrax release though! They only ever came close to "deathrider", "panic" and "death from above" a few times again (gung-ho, i am the law, A I R, and madhouse)!! :D

You're getting into them at just the right time of year too, cause Anthrax is thrashing-in-the-sun sorta music. First time I heard an Anthrax song (with the due exception of Bring The Noize) was seeing the classic line-up at Download Festival 2005. It was love at first listen.

You are making me feel old son.I saw Anthrax supporting Metallica in Sheffield in 1986.For me "Spreading the Disease" is their finest work, when the riff kicks in after that laugh at the start of "Madhouse" that's thrash metal. :rockdevil:

You're making me feel envious mate. I'd kill to see any of the big four playing back in 1986. Of-course I was a bit busy that year, being in a womb and all.

Aye same here, do like a bit of the old 'thrax myself. Metal Thrashing Mad FTW!
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Thank the Police coming straight from the underground...

First two LPs are the best, "Spreading The Disease" is my fave. I also saw the supporting METALLICA and then a couple of years later with TESTAMENT (I think). Went off them after that though.

Anthrax have, and will always be one of my favourite bands. I first heard them back in '85 when Tommy Vance was nice enough to play Medusa on the Friday Rock Show. From then on I was hooked but it took me until 1993 to actually see them live. Bush, not Belladonna, but it was a stunning gig in Wolverhampton, and remains to this day one of the best live performances I've ever seen.
I've seen them 7 more times since, with both line-ups now, and from my experience I don't actually think they know how to play a slightly dodgy, let alone a bad show.
I couldn't care less about the behind the scenes shenanigans. All bands have their problems and Anthrax are no exception. All I care about is them doing this new album and then touring again, and if the new one (whenever it surfaces) is anywhere near as good as WCFYA then I'll be a very happy bunny indeed.

Couldn't believe it when the music press started to turn on Anthrax because of the bermuda shorts image. They were seriously gaining on Metallica in the popularity stakes and the darlings at Kerrang didn't want to upset their guaranteed weekly interviewees so tried the old "the image doesn't fit the music" routine and all the Metallica moppets at the time sided with Hetfield's ego and Ulrich's mouth and poor old Anthrax got consigned to the "Not as good as Metallica because we say so" bin along with other great thrash bands like Nuclear Assault and Sacred Reich.

Plus the fact they weren't as good as metallica (which don't mean they were crap tho!!). How times have changed
