Iced Earth

I'm a massive fan of this band, one of the first really decent metal bands I got into, along with Megadeth, Slayer etc...

I'm just interested how many of you like these guys??

I love all of their stuff, but it's been getting weaker since 'Something Wicked This Way Comes' came out, Horror Show was pretty good, but nothing in comparison with its predecessors (except for the production..)!!

Favourite album? Favourite songs?

Iced Earth rule!!!!!!!

Alive in Athens is a quality album.

I have Horror Show,Something Wicked, Night of the Stormrider, Burnt Offerings and Athens.

Barlow was amazingly cool, pity he's a police officer now

Used to be a band I listened to almost daily.
Still love 'em though, but it upsets me that Barlow isn't in the band. I refuse to even listen to the Ripper stuff.

Fave song is maybe Angels Holocaust. Alive in Athens is probably the best live metal album EVER - they are just so fucking tight its amazing.

You're not the only person to do this but I just can't understand it. The Glorious Burden is my favourite Iced Earth album (and yes, I did get into them when Barlow was the singer).
Ripper is an amazing singer, his stuff with Beyond Fear is excellent and the blame for the turgid output released with Priest must lie at the feet of Downing and Tipton.

I love Something Wicked and to hear that the new album is going to be SWTWC Part 2 and a double album to boot is great news.

Favourite Tracks:

Gettysburg
Damien
Red Baron Blue Max
Ghost of Freedom
Hollow Man
Melancholy
Burning Times
Desert Rain
Disciples of the Lie
Watching Over Me
I Died for You
The Hunter

Get watching that Alive in Athens dvd! It's a fucking monster.

I've always found Iced Earth quite an average band really, though that's probably because I haven't heard much of their earlier stuff. I've heard the Horrow Show one, which was quite nice, and some of the album that 'Watching Over Me' is from, which is also quite nice if I remember rightly, and I've got The Glorious Burden, which was quite average, though I found Gettysburg to be quite amazing. Tim Owen's voice (I refuse to call him 'The Ripper', the bastard, how dare he name himself after such an amazing song, he wouldn't even be worthy of the name Turbo Lover!) is a bit annoying, and even though he was especially shit in Judas Priest I don't think he's too bad in Iced Earth. Perhaps I need to listen to more, but from what I've heard they don't really rock my boat too much.

Another Iced Earth fan here, i have Horror Show and Something Wicked this Way Comes, love both the albums, by the sounds of things i should get Alive in Athens.

On a side note, Tim Mills (Bareknuckle Pickups) has recently joined the band, so expect the new album to be tonally awsome :-) plus he shreads like a mother f*cker.

You have to remember- It serves them right for being knuckle dragging northeners.

Yeh definetly cool - Can't wait to see them at Wacken. I've seen a bit of that DVD and it wasn't completely amazing to be honest. Tribute to the gods is a beasty covers album though - for a change.

I dunno, for me Iced Earth was all about Barlow and Schaffer. I was gutted after he left.

I do have Glorius Burden... I may give it a shot

NOT ONLY I HAVE THE "ALIVE IN ATHENS" CD & DVD BUT I WAS INSIDE THE RODON CLUB DURING THESE TWO NIGHTS. BELIEVE ME THAT THE DVD CAN'T CAPTURE WHAT WAS GOING ON THOSE NIGHTS IN ATHENS. IT WAS ABSOLUTELLY INTENSE.
THEIR BEST PERIOD WAS THE "DARK SAGA" - "SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES" ALBUMS. "A QUESTION OF HEAVEN" IS BRILLIANT

I downloaded the Iced Earth disco and then lost it. Ever since I miss all their material like crazy. Except for that shitty post-9/11 album with Eagle Soars and all that shit. Yes, you're upset Americans, we get it.

I have 'Something Wicked...' and it is awesome. Fucking great CD. Would like to check out more of their stuff, actually, just don't know where next to go. I can imagine that most things would struggle to follow SWTWC. Jon, Watching Over Me is on that album. Get it. The concept songs at the end kill.

There's an unseen fortune under their belts
Are golden temples a symbol of God's way
This horde of wealth is a sickening display"
