A) Kerry King has never used a Floyd Rose.
B) If you're going for an example of someone that uses a locking tremolo extensively, why not use someone that can actually play three notes consecutively?

Re: UK Custom guitar companies
Even though I like the extra options a FR can give me I prefer a sring thru/fixed bridge for several reasons:
1. Greater tuning flexibility
2. Better tone in my opinion
3. Much quicker re-stringing and much easier to maintain
I still have a guitar with A FR though and wouldn't change it because they are awesome and can be used to make some mental/interesting sounds

Plus this is my first fr, so i really have to get used to them.
Any reccomended sites i can go on to do some boffining up on them?
Just ask me man (pm!), I could probably help with any advice or anything, I've been using Floyd Roses for years and know all the ins and outs
And I never get the pitch change problem, and I always rest my hand on the bridge!
I don't really need any advice, i am just interested in finding out the mechanics behind them. I am a total nerd for things like that, i once read a technical journal about lift doors ffs. Cheers for the offer though main, i will remember it.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

I half agree with this actually. Given the option, I'd never pass up having a Floyd Rose but I'd rather not have a trem cavity. My brother has a Peavey Wolfgang and whilst it's not the best guitar I've ever played, not having the trem cavity is kick arse. I do do harmonic screams from time to time, but only to impress people.

Just go to Floyd Rose's site. There's bound to be a PDF or something on them. Allegedly the metal used in their construction really does make a difference. Depending on how sad you're willing to get, I'm sure you'll be able to work out which companies use mills and which cast moulds in their production...

Kerry King is the same as Rick Rozz when it comes to whammy bar skill
I'm a total nerd too!!!
hence me offering to answer any questions!
the mechanics of guitars are very very simple, so don't hesitate to ask me any questions!

A. He uses floating tremolos though, Floyd Rose was just an example.
B. That was the whole point

A) I wouldn't classify the Kahlers used by KK as 'floating'. They're mounted to the body and have a small recess to allow you to raise the pitch but they don't float in the same was as OFRs do, i.e. an entire OFR unit 'floats', whereas only part of the Kahlers used by KK float. I'm not a Kahler buff so don't know the model name KK uses. It's something along the lines of a 2300 and the part that floats is called the 'cam' or some shit. They're basically a very shit design and OFRs are, in my opinion, the only way forward for anyone that's interested in doing cool shit with a tremolo. Incidentally, I do have a Kahler Spyder (FR style) kicking about that I meant to fit to a guitar at some point or another. It'll probably never get round to it now but it seems like a fairly good tremolo.
B) It was crap.

Re: UK Custom guitar companies
Aye.
It's looks like:

The body I have is routed for a two-point vintage trem. I bought a Kahler (shit, it's a Killer, not Spyder I have) having read a PDF that said the spacing between the trem posts would be the same as a vintage trem. The PDF lied and now the Kahler is sitting around in a box. I have a really shite Floyd Rose licensed trem kicking around from my LTD too.
Come to think of it, I really ought to flog some of the spares I have.
I might still get round to the project, but I doubt it seeing as I already have two Superstrats now.

Iain, that trem seems cool, what is the spacing (in mm) for the posts??
I got a REALLY old Aria Pro II ZZ model, it's sexual, but the old trem it came with is rusted solid and pretty fuckered, and there's no arm either....

Re: UK Custom guitar companies
I'll measure it when I get home.
The Floyd Rose-style Kahlers go pretty cheap on eBay. I got mine for about £35 and it's in mint condition. I would actually like to know how good it would be. It's a single-locking trem, which would suggest not very but it's also the tremolo they used on certain runs of the Peavey Vandenberg model as well as their Tracers, which seem like good guitars.
They used this one too. That's the Spyder.

Cool, thought they'd have been more than that!!!
Some single locking trems are actually really good, nicely balanced feel to em... but that said, some are complete wank
If peavey used em they probably won't be too shit though!
