Recommendation of Power

Postby STD_Caps on Sun May 27, 2007 9:23 pm

I want an album that is fucking awesome! I have bought some damn good CDs recently but none that are just fucking pure, incredible METAL! I want riffs to die for. I'm talking Powerslave, Master of Puppets, Slaughter of the Soul, Masters of Reality, Symbolic, Screaming for Vengeance, Wolverine Blues and the like.

I'm thinking some Stoner/Doom might satisfy my needs, Solitude Aerturnus and the like. Any recommendations welcome. Just something that just sounds brilliant from the first time you hear it. The last album that had that sort of effect of me was Ministry's Rio Grande Blood (which I bought at the same time as Smear Campaign). The riffs on that album are great. It's a really good, intense record.

Anyway, I want something with the same feeling of 'fuck yeah' though obviously it doesn't have to sound anything like Ministry.

You might not be willing to give it a try, but either At the Heart of Winter or Sons of Northern Darkness by Immortal will probably blow your balls off with power. (I dont mean blow off your balls).

I also have been wanting an album like that. I've been listening to quite a diversity of music recently, and I need one that just makes me go 'yeah, that's why I listen to metal'.

I really wanna hear the new Orange Goblin... I might be a bastard and download it if I can find it. I promise promise promise to buy it when I get money though. Metalbrew got an e-mail from Ben Ward asking us all to spread the word (in a mailing list of course, but still from his personal address). It's 150 or something in the charts... the first chart success they've had. I'll let you know what it's like Caps.

Holy crap, ive just realised that while those Immortal albums are amazing, if you're after something doomy that can actually totally take over your music life for a bit.....

Look no further than PAGAN ALTAR.

You will have to look quite hard for them in the first place so you probably wont want to look any further after youve found them.

If you can get your hands on a copy of Mythical and Magical you will be very happy.

I was thinking of the new Goblin too as I read Caps' post. I'd really love to hear it. I'm hoping that the album you're looking for (and indeed the album I'm looking for too) will be Down III, whever that comes out.

Sabbath's Mob Rules satisfied me somewhat on my quest for heavy metal. And whenever Judas Priest takes the quest of heavy metal we will always know one thing and that's I'm, A, Rocker! But Mob Rules, whilst being an amazing album, wasn't quite heavy enough to make me nice. I reckon the new Goblin album could be the cure.

And Caps, what Opeth have you got? Because if you want some heavy motherfucking madness, get Deliverance if you haven't already. Every song will blow your balls up out of your nose. Apart from A Fair Judgement, which is lovely, but still with wonderful heavy bits, and an end section that will doom your bum into next tuesday.

Unfortunately most modern metal that comes out today seems to be shit. That includes new releases by the old bands we all enjoy. During my quest for heavy metal, I download Dio's Master of the Moon to see if I'd like it enough to buy it (I did actually try and buy it before I downloaded it but couldn't find it, then found one copy that was £17 so I thought I'd better make sure), and it was just boring with some good bits here and there. It's like all these bands who are now where they have always wanted to be just don't have the drive to go any further.

In Judas Priest lies our hope. But until then, and until Down III comes out, get some of the Gobbers.

While I'm not a fan of black metal, a good album is a good album... forever. So I might check out Immortal.

While I'm sure the Goblin album will be good, I think it will be mostly another Goblin album. I want something I've not heard that will make me go 'fucking hell!' That's why I won't be going for Opeth.

Keep those recommendations coming.

Fair enough (well done for the lovely bit of quoting), although I've just started listening to the Goblin album and its brilliant. For me though it's the first time I've actually listened to them properly, so in my case its nice, in your case it nice but not as nice as you'd enjoy.

You know what I mean.

Yeah thats why i thought id suggest Immortal, something you maybe wouldnt have otherwise checked out. Im not really into black metal much at all, but these guys are by far my favourite band that are generally called Black Metal. In fact theyve got some well thrashy elements tot heir music, but thr riffing is really orignal and it always sounds like youve been frozen by sub-zero and then hit with a tiny hammer until you shatter into little pieces. Heres a cool example of them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyRZKLRz ... ed&search=

delightfully silly looking as usual too haha.

If you dont like that though, and just listening to it now, it is pretty bloody brutal so you might not, check out Pagan Altar. Theyre a well old band from the late 70's- 80's who released one album ages ago that ruled, but they never got big. Then recently they finally got round to recording two more albums of old material that toally kick ass. Its well doomy, but basically a cross between Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, but not in a gay way. There arent any videos of them because theyre all actually alien ghosts from the crab nebula but someone made a cool video to go with one of their songs:

enjoy!

Yah-ha! I feel that way too. Top band.

Hmm, interesting question. Nothing's blown me away recently, except possibly Symphony X's new one.

And of course art of partying.

Yeah, pretty much every new album that's come out this year, with the exception of Municipal Waste and Orange Goblin, has been disappointing. Ranging from the 'slightly disappointing but still good' (Kamelot), to the 'pretty disappointing and should've been much better' (Porcupine Tree), then to the 'really shit but knew it was gonna be anyway so it doesn't really matter' (Machine Head), all the way to the 'good lord this is terrible, I want to cry because I really hoped it was going to be good but it's horrible' (Megadeth) and 'oh my bloody god this is so horribly gay, why on earth did I ever like them.' (Nightwish)

Aye, the art of partying is the best release so far. Immortal are quite fun, just getting into them myself atm. Sons Of Northern Darkness is very good. Do have to be in the right mood though.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.

Thank the Police coming straight from the underground...
