Watching AJFA at Wembley was the most fucking boring thing I've ever experienced. I remember hearing someone saying that the reason they stopped playing that song live was Kirk mentioning looking out into the crowd and seeing someone yawning.

Megadeth just have the energy that metallica never seemed to put down onto a record, and that bags it for me.

I think you must've been in a minority there, from what I remember people loved hearing such a classic being played again.

Kirk did say something like that, although I think it was said partly as a joke. But the point being made at that time was more of a justification for the shorter, simpler songs of the Black Album: they'd been becoming more and more progressive and the songs were getting longer, so that was a break, a change, and gave them a set of songs to put into the live mix to break that feel up.

I listened to Risk alot more than i have St. Anger, at least i've listened through all of Risk lol

If you're only looking at the past 10 years, not particuarly, no. Megadeth's output over that period has indeed been superior (although with Metallica's new album just around the corner that gap could be closed somewhat). Megadeth are a more consistent band, but in sheer volume of musical awesomeness generated, Metallica win out IMO.

I think Mustaine made better use of the Ktulu chord progression in Hangar 18.

When i saw megadeth at their first uk show in 87, they were awful. They actually stopped playing and dave fucked of stage for about 10 mins as the crowd were chanting "kirk hammett is god"

Listening to Rust in Peace now. Brilliant.

I wouldn't say it's a mess exactly, but I would say it lacks direction and drags in places. And I would agree definitely with the second statement. I still think it's good though. The main problem with AJFA is its production, which is such a shame. I reckon the songs would come across a lot better if they actually sounded good.
