I don't understand why the police here don't use rubber bullets more often. They must hurt like hell and, therefore, will dissuade anyone whose philosophy is 'It was them fat-cat bankers what done it!' from protesting. It's probably just me, but I think Britons seem to get away with quite a lot of shit compared to a lot of other places.

Yea I agree. Alot of the "protesters" were wasters with nothing better to do and nothing specific against which to protest. The type of people that think politicians give a shit about what they have to say when they can't even string coherant sentences together.
However, despite my contempt for many of the people there, this doesn't excuse the heavy-handed tactics of the police against what were essentially a few kids. I think Mr Tomlinson has performed some sort of public service by finally bringing this important issue to the attention (albeit reluctantly) to the mainstream, commercial media. Only a strict authoritarian can condone the actions of the officer who cowardly assaulted him from behind and hopefully this incident will lead to more people questioning the tactics of the police in legal protests up and down the country.

Yeah you're right. I heard about this guy Martin Luther something...King? Yeah well he tried all this "peaceful" protest nonsense to stop discrimination against African Americans in the USA. Well it certainly didn't work because they still can't even vote, let alone become president!

Yeah, thankfully John Cleese wasn't there! He'd have got battered!

When you was a kid you would of done a similar thing with your parents when you did'nt want to go somewhere. They would say hurry up and you would walk slower. Just to annoy them hows that any different to what the dude was doing?

Well... 1 - We've so far just assumed he was purposefully walking 'sarcastically' in front of the police, and 2 - if the parent in question pushed a small child over on to the ground because the child was walking slowly, they'd probably get done for child abuse.

To be fair... pushing him over was too far. He was alone and not in a big angry group. People can be spoken too much easier that way.

The copper responsible has been suspended... don't know if anything more will be done though.

Not every drunk person is an asshole, even if that's true it doesn't really mean anything.

Re: Naughty Policeman
I work in a pub, dealing with drunkards all day. I often have extremely violent fantasies about killing them in horrific ways.
I bet that copper worked in a pub too, just before he joined Police Squad. That man was probably an old regular and said something to him like, 'top me up, this is a rubbish pint, no head, just like you in a minute if you don't sort out my beer you little cunt!" and the memories came flooding back. Memories of late nights and shifty eye contact, cleaning bins and wiping up blood stains. The copper snapped, 'I don't have to take it anymore! Look at me now!' a quick shove and it was all over. Worth it.

I'm a complete dick to anyone I don't like when I'm drunk. It's great - you get to burn bridges with people you can't be arsed with without it seeming difficult at all. Saying that, I'm a bit of an arsehole to people I like when I'm drunk as well but only because I think what I'm doing is funny.
