I choose Ghost Reveries. It was my first Opeth experience, and for that it shall always remain a magical experience to my face. You just can't get much better than The Baying Of The Hounds, or even Ghost of Perdition, what a ridiculous mother of a song.

Beneath The Mire is blates the best song on GR.....there all good. Have Opeth ever put out a bad album? No.

Beneath The Mire is definitely amazing, especially that unbelievable guitar/keyboard simultaneous solo of wonder, unbelievable. Harlequin Forest is also unbelievable. Well, every song's amazing basically. I really can't wait to hear what their next album is going to sound like.

Have you heard what Mikaels written about it? Sounds so sexual.

From his blog:

"I have around 5 tracks ready, or semi ready. I think it sounds darker than ever before (not saying this to "sell" the record, I think it really is darker) and more versatile."

"Some are downright evil sounding....a few Bathory (evil era 83-87) parts, some tech-death ones, some overblown prog ballad ones, one Nick Drake thing, one complete prog thing with triple harmony vocals, one evocative middle eastern psychedelic metal arrangement with falsetto vocals (not as wimpy sounding as you might think), one 70´s Scorpions sounding bit (like "Living and dying" type of stuff), one's totally murky forest-ish sounding dark prog-rock with loud vocals that shifts between major and minor, one tedious ugly/pretty little hobbit sounding symf part with moogs over a classical guitar, some soundtrack-ish sounding ones etc..."

Deliverance for me for the title track alone.

Opeth are god-like but i am a wee bit worrid about the recent unstability of the band line up :?

Not strictly true.

For anyone who loves the Damnation album, you'd do well to listen to Porcupine Tree (best albums - Deadwing, In Absentia and Fear of a Blank Planet).
Opeth producer, Steven Wilson, is the frontman of the band and you can hear all the things on PT albums which make Damnation so wonderful.
The musicianship, as you'd expect, is exemplary and there's lots and lots of mellotron.

I've literally just come about seventy-two times in five seconds.

Yes, Porcupine Tree are a lovely band. I have In Absentia and Deadwing (brilliant), and have listened to FOABP many times (not so brilliant, but still good), and they are very nice, somewhat commercial sounding, but it works and Steven Wilson is brilliant at everything he does, especially producing. You can definitely hear that both him and Opeth have influenced each other. But Opeth are better.

Don't be daft. The album was called Orc Hid and it was about the most cowardly creature in middle earth and what he did during battles.
