Metallica have no idea what happened at Stalingrad.

Sorry, couldn't resist that one.

I quite like the lyrics from that song.. Pretty good for metalicker.

Soldier boy, made of clay, now an empty shell, 21, only son, but he served us well...
Bred to kill, not to care, do just as we say, finished here, greeting death, he's yours to take away!

I don't really see the point in writing songs about events of which you have no life experience. In my experience songs about war seldom come off and, personally, I'd rather read stuff that was written by the people who fought in them or by experts on the subject. Come to think of it, I'm not too keen on lyrics about history, politics and religion because if you scrutinize their content you're bound to come to the conclusion that the person that wrote them is just talking bollocks.

yeah, i have to agree that ALL lyrics would be better if they were like this:
; Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do
Tonight I wanna give it all to you
In the darkness
Theres so much I wanna do
And tonight I wanna lay it at your feet
cause girl, I was made for you
And girl, you were made for me

I was made for lovin you baby
You were made for lovin me
And I cant get enough of you baby
Can you get enough of me

Tonight I wanna see it in your eyes
Feel the magic
Theres something that drives me wild
And tonight were gonna make it all come true
cause girl, you were made for me
And girl I was made for you

I was made for lovin you baby
You were made for lovin me
And I cant get enough of you baby
Can you get enough of me

I was made for lovin you baby
You were made for lovin me
And I can give it all to you baby
Can you give it all to me

Oh, cant get enough, oh, oh
I cant get enough, oh, oh
I cant get enough
Yeah, ha

Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do

I was made for lovin you baby
You were made for lovin me
And I cant get enough of you baby
Can you get enough of me

Oh, I was made, you were made
I cant get enough
No, I cant get enough

I was made for lovin you baby
You were made for lovin me
And I cant get enough of you baby
Can you get enough of me

I was made for lovin you baby
You were made for lovin me
And I can give it all to you baby

I've been mostly playing Guitar Hero three with my housemates this evening, I now officially hate the song "I wanna rock and roll all night" 32324242 times more than I did before. Which is a lot.

"Darkness 11/11" by Van Der Graaf Generator. It's off the "The Least We Can Do Is Wave to Each Other" album.

Just remembered another, Sting's "Children's Crusade."

Young men, soldiers, Nineteen Fourteen
Marching through countries they'd never seen
Virgins with rifles, a game of charades
All for a Children's Crusade

Any song by Franz Ferdinand? Like "Take Me Out" which started it all? :D

That song is better than any Metal song, be it Thrash or otherwise, that uses lyrics based on war. And at least Kiss know how not to be door bastards all the time:

'Moan! Moan! Moan! We're a Thrash band and love writing songs about how we hate politicians, religion and war yet simultaneously do little to advance proper counter-arguments or even valid opinions.'

I'd sooner hear vocals or read lyrics about shagging than whiny bollocks about war. I mean, what right does James Hetfield have to sing about Stalingrad? I bet he could barely point to it (Tsaritsyn/Stalingrad/Volgograd) on the map let alone do any justice to the Battle of Stalingrad.

Leave History to the Historians, that's what I say.
