some will think they are a sad waste of time, fair enough, when i look at the hours spent on gamesave/memory card screens,i see a valid point.also some dont have the patience/intelligence for turnbased battles and huge quests, again, fair enough.
but for those who like them i think youll agree that they are truly epic and there is a sense of achievement, involvement and skill that you cant find in other games.the further you progress the more of a geniusly designed game you get to experience.
also theres a sense of "i completed/experienced something" you cant get in other games.
i know they take ages and at times the battles get on my nerves but overall they are one of my fave genres.
my rpgs have provided shitloads of hours gaming over the years and some i have still yet to play/finish,heres the collection.
on ps1:saga frontier 2,Alundra,breath of fire 3,final fantasy 1,2,4,5,6,7
on snes:zelda, illusion of time/gaia,chrono trigger, secret of mana, secret of evermore, final fantasy mystic quest, terranigma, breath of fire 1 and 2,goemon mystical ninja.(all pristine and mostly rare)
anything on ps2 or any final fantasy made after final fantasy 7 i havent bothered with.they may be great and look amazing but i prefer the classic "top-down"rpgs.with the exception of ff7 of course as that game was cutting edge at the time and was still in the transition period to these modern rpgs.it kept that traditional/old school vibe.
anyway love or hate them......
