Oh dear.

I went to download this year [primarily to see Cynic because I couldn't go to their own show] and the buggers pulled out. Obviously Slayer and Megadeth made it alright anyway, and Maiden were epic [well, the second half of their set I haven't managed to get into their new stuff] but other than that, the atmosphere there is pretty rubbish, there's no real 'beer garden' or anything resembling a big communal area where you can drink and chat with everyone - hence the reason people get their fun from throwing bottles at each other/starting fights on a hill. Plus the stupid bloody drink tokens scheme they have is ridiculous, you have to queue for over an hour to get some drinks tokens, then queue for another hour to actually get a drink, and meanwhile they stop you bringing your own from the campsite. Insanity.

Apart from the general poor band choice it's only when you go to a festival like Wacken you realise how lame Download is.

Seriously, are you not allowed to bring your own beer to the campsite? I know you can't take it to the arena, everything has to be in plastic, but come on!

Nah I meant you're not allowed to bring your drinks from the campsite [into the arena] even more stupidly though they threw away my beer I'd just bought from one of their own shitty stalls as I was going into the arena even though it was literally opposite where we were entering the arena and it was exposed in a sodding plastic cup. They're such Nazis at download, seriously. Ah well, I'll stop bitching, I'm going to Wacken and Hellfest

Both Foo FIghters and Muse are far more interesting than GAYC/DC, one of the more overrated and sleep-inducing bands of all time.

I've had VIP passes the last couple of years so I've been privy to the beer garden, communal mingling area, and - most importantly - proper toilet facilities!

yeah the VIP bit's ace! got RIP tickets again this year, hopefully metallica will play, doubt foos will as they're playing 2 nights that weekend at wembley stadium; tallica confirmed for rock am ring/park on the fri/sat so they can do the sunday night. hopefully they'll lay off the emo this year and get some more good bands on.

Because AC/DC play really really simple, dull songs, whereas Muse have some amazing compositions in their discography. Butterflies and Hurricanes springs to mind, the piano interlude in that is amazing.
