Nah we're not death metal - we're thrash/death/grind/nu and glam metal all rolled into one. If you disagree, it means uve labelled urself as 'a gay'.

Seriously.

after all, there are only 12 notes....

There are only 12 notes if you go by the Western system of even semitones. There are 70+ notes if you use micro-tonality. However, it's not as if a million bands haven't already had forays into trying to incorporate elements of Eastern music into their songs.

At the end of the day, any band that claims to be original simply hasn't looked hard enough to find bands that have already done what they're doing.

I very much agree with your comment there Iain.

This is a sticky subject. How different can a thrash band be original and still be a thrash band? I could knock out a few thrash style songs on acoustic guitar, call myself a thrash band and be the most original one in the UK. But that would be very silly, so perhaps originality does not matter per se. As Metal Iain says, it has all been done before anyway.

What is wrong with being generic? I like thrash metal because it sounds like thrash metal, however the songs need to be full of decent riffs, have catchy hooks, imaginative solos and interesting structures. It's not enough to re-write a Slayer song again and again.

Perhaps the question should be "UK Thrash Band with best material"?

That's what I think, there's nowt wrong with being generic especially if the band accepts that they are generic. I hate people who claim to be original in any way.

Give me a well crafted generic thrash song over a poorly written experimental effort any time.

thrash is a very limiting genre as its based around a very simple style i.e punk. Making yourself original requires branching into new genres and styles. The most original and interesting thrash bands i have heard are Coroner and Watchtower who are both very technical and branch away from the traditional thrash sound somewhat. Good thrash is excellent whether the style is generic or not, what's important is the effect it has on your neck :rockdevil:

Look, we've all been beating round the bush, everyone just admit that Heretic is the most original thing you've ever heard.

But I've heard the family in the flat above during Ramadan. It quite inspired me to challenge my perceptions of music. I mean, being woken up every morning to:

'Hee maa li yari manji smaro kumi lano uuksihavo sheebi sheebi shaaaano makssssalaba hournery shavo'

It fairly fucks with your brain.

I've got to say, the strangest and most obnoxious music I've heard is from Thailand. Our new drummer does Muay Thai so he's made me watch a few fights on Youtube and before they fight and sometimes during they have this horrible droning sound accompanied by an out-of-time kettle drum. You can see why it's such a brutal sport, I'd want to kill something if I had to listen to that shit all the time.

You could maybe think of it like that. You'd definitely be getting an elbow-sandwhich.
