Berr.. I actually do agree about the over-emphasising on how shit Trivium are - as in, people go too far with it and just come across as dicks.

But the fact remains that Trivium are a complete disgrace, I think I wouldn't even have slagged them off that much if they hadn't done that manowar cover, and stayed all metalcore.

I neither love them or hate them.

PROS:
1. They have some good tunes.
2. They're not doing anybody any harm and it's better than listening to Green Day.
3. Their drummer is better than Lars.
4. They sound like Metallica should do.
5. They didn't record St. Anger.

CONS
1. They have some shit songs.
2. They have embarrassing sub-Anselmo lyrics.
3. Heafy's a bell-end for his "let's get the heckler thrown out" wankery every night.
4. Some of their riffs really are blatant rip-offs.
5. They sound like a Metallica tribute act.


Swings and roundabouts, really.

To these ears, playing proper riffs and solos in a traditional (no matter how plagiaristic) manner beats repeated three chord progressions with one string solos for beginners every time.
Dookie was a top album but everything after that (with the exception of a handful of tracks from Nimrod) was tiresome drivel.

I agree with you, dookie is a great album. Their first 2 albums are amazing though. If you're moaning that their solos arent good enough, then I suggest you check the first album.

I gave Kerplunk and the other one a brief listen a couple of years ago but neither did anything for me really. There did seem to be a couple of decent solos on there but when you've grown up listening to Smith/Murray, Young and Iommi, then it all seems a bit amateurish.
To be honest though, I've never been the world's biggest punk fan, and I always preferred Pennywise and The Offspring to GD anyway.
