Shabby guitar tone, stopped me from enjoying this set as much as I should have. Was it just me of was Matt Barlow losing his voice a bit? Still totally cool to see Iced Earth, used to listen to them loads a few years back, great to hear some of those tracks, but a bit of a shame to have seen them like this really.

CROWNING GLORY:
Crowning Glory were outstanding! Such a powerful sound, they really seemed to fit the bigger stage as well, making full use of it. The guitars were spot on, that must have gone down to the guitar tech?

AT THE GATES:
The best set of the weekend! Naturaly biased because they're my favourite band, but unlike Iced Earth, they fucking nailed it. A shame some of the older songs weren't played - it would have been awesome to hear songs like Windows, The Break of Autumn, The Architects, and City of Screaming Statues, my only criticism would be that they played too many songs off Slaughter, but still, absolutely amazing, and worth the ticket / travel money alone!

I have to disagree also, with the following:

Helloween: I AM PERFECT GENTLEMAN! Just bloody awful. Poor sound, bland songs. I don't understand why anyone would ever like them if they sound like that on record

Alestorm: They were absolutely brilliant, they went down so amazingly well with the crowd. Very good musicians, I don't get what you're on about

Dimmu: Record it, and show it to other bands "What not to do when you headline" at the end of every song they lost a massive chunk of audience, and I really wouldn't be surprised if that's why they finished early. Not interesting enough to be worth standing in the rain for

At The Gates: I went in expecting not to like them, and would have been glad to say I didn't, but by the end I was in the biggest of the three pits. Bloody amazing.

I disagree with some others, and agree with some (Grand Magus were indeed great) but I felt that needed to be said.
