No contest; Megadeth as they were pretty different to what the billions of other Thrash bands were doing at the time. I can't think of many Thrash bands that did songs as off-the-wall or good as My Last Words or Lucretia. And for a while, Dave was the best lyricist in Thrash. Even Cryptic Writings was pretty good. He really ought to stop singing about politics though - Blackmail the Universe is just fucking horrendous and I try my best to forget about Amerikastan.

Good call.

Both great in their prime, but Megadeth overall for me.

This forum must be getting dire if there has to be a Megadeth vs Metallica thread. I am sure it has been done here more than once.

Hmmm...I think it's retarded that there's even a thread-as good as Metallica where Megadeth are fucking GODS. Well, a God of a frontman. MEGADETH all the fucking way. Truly unique thrash band with much better musicianship (imo) than Metallica.

 Someone just pump him full of amphetamines again, at least then he'd maybe be able to re kindle some of the amazing mustaine 'snarl' charisma he once had.

Metallica for MoP and AJFA. With those two records they wrote something more mature than Megadeth ever accomplished. That said Rust in Peace is a great feat. of heavy metal musicianship.

Unquestionably Metallica.
