Re: Greatest Punk
Fuckin yeahhh! I love the punk shit. Freshney are highly influenced by it.
Everyone's pretty much mentioned all the good shit, I like all the different variations of punk, including...
NOFX
Bad Religion
Damned
Cock Sparrer
UK Subs
The Business
Varukers
Discharge
Crass
Anti Nowhere League
GBH
DRI
The Exploited
Misfits
I know alot of people aint into Oi... but I was bought up on that shit as a kid... Millwall FC and Oi!
...well from me Dad...
But yeah, me old manplayed for an Oi band called The Last Resort for years (now reformed with members of Anti-Nowhere League), Madball n Sick Of It All both cover one of his tunes each. Madball do 'Violence in Our Minds' and SOIA do 'Working Class Kids'.
He also had his own ska band back in the day which he has recently reformed too... 'Arthur Kay and The Originals'.
He hates the punk shit now, wants nothing to do with it.
Check it out though, if your into that sorta stuff that is...

Recently he's been doing folky acoustic solo stuff, recorded a couple of tunes with Lars Fredrikson in Margate a few years ago. Haha... not really a fan of Rancid myself though.

Been on a Damned kick lately. "Machine Gun Etiquette" and "The Black Album" today. Great stuff.

Re: Greatest Punk
Why has no-one mentioned Broken Bones??????
I would say mst of the posts here are ore hardcore bands, rather than punk.
I love 2nd wave UK punk (discharge, anti nowhere league, expolited, gbh, english dogs, demo era onslaught, attak, etc etc etc0
I also love some of the US hardcore punk, a lot of crust, and a lot of early 80s hardcore.
All thrash fans should dig a lot of this, as it is wher thrash came from just as much as NWOBHM.

Re: Greatest Punk
Chaos UK? I saw them live and it was the most boring thing ever, their set seemed to drag on for hours.

Re: Greatest Punk
Subhumans are indeed wicked and their new album is killer. Citizen Fish are goodness too, if a bit light. Jello Biafra has got a new album out, 'Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine - The Audacity of Hype'. Some of it's wicked, some of it a bit more throw away but on the whole worth it for Biafra fans.
Also, new Propaghandi is wicked. I know there quite hardcore but their last album is a monster with great lyrics and some wicked riffs (I think I spy a Mastodon [like a not shit bit from Mastodon - if they still exist] type influence in some of the riffery).

"And what about the churches and all their wealth
There's an unseen fortune under their belts
Are golden temples a symbol of God's way
This horde of wealth is a sickening display"
