What I have read against Dawkins is that he is as much a fundamentalist as those he opposes. His truth is science. Similar accusations have been laid at the nob-head that is Christopher Hitchens. This may be my reservation on science - I do not like the idea of its 'truth' replacing religion. It may not be true of Dawkins (like I said, haven't read enough) but I can definitely see science impacting in this way.
"And what about the churches and all their wealth
There's an unseen fortune under their belts
Are golden temples a symbol of God's way
This horde of wealth is a sickening display"

Yes Dawkins is a fundamentalist, in logic and reasoning. He wants to know the truth, and he maintains the position of disbelief until proper evidence is put forward. I don't see how that is a bad thing? Perhaps it's perceived as bad because it's 'rude' to criticize religion?
I've read the argument that they are fundamentalists, but the whole thing comes back to evidence. Do you have good reason to believe what you believe? They maintain that the religious don't, and while they don't know what exactly is the truth, they believe in the best scientific explanation given.

If he existed, or if he created us, decided if we went to hell, and could do everything?

Any claim that Christians have made up (save the contradictions) were scientifically proved and repeatable and the only reasonable choice is to accept his existence. Would you worship him?

No. I'd think the last thing God wants on a Sunday morning after a night out on the piss, is fucking a million bells going off and a load of fellas singing.

Of course! If he can do anything, and decide where whether or not we spend eternity in a real place where you burn and are tortured for ever, I would obviously want to be on his side!

We need to create rifts in the fabrics between worlds and launch a war on the Authority.

James wrote:I often take it for granted that hardly any metal fans believe in God, but I was just curious how right I am about this.
Does anyone believe in the being who Christians, or any other religion for that matter, call God?
If not, does anyone have a wider belief in the supernatural or divine forces?
As the non-existance of such a being can never be proven, I am not asking "who feels that there could be a divine being beyond our understanding" - I think most people would acknowledge the possibility of this. I am asking if anyone actively believes in the existance of such a being/power, and if so, why?
I'm likely to delete silly or pointless answers (with the possible exception of "Halford").
This is something that I can talk about for hours. I have many different beliefs, but I mainly believe in a theory of infinity, where all is possible. I don't believe in any religious stuff because that's just silly stuff somebody made up a few thousand years ago. I believe there could be a "God" but I don't think it would be a physical being who "created" us. Just as a side note, I also kind of believe in Fate, but I do have some very loose scientific thinking behind that confusing theory I made up. I also kind of believe in Karma, but then again, when I think about it, I don't, I dunno. This is all stuff I prefer not to think about cause you can never come to a proper conclusion.
This sort of thing is why I like halucenagenics, cause they get you away from the reality that we all know, it's way more iteresting.
