I wasn't referring to the moronic crimes associated with certain scenes, just the general sense of being 'part of' something exciting and international. Dunno, just musing.

I think the main reason is, sadly, that there is nothing to exciting to be a part of. There is no new musical genre that we can all be a part of. Thrash has been done as has the New wave sound that is comming back around.
We are growing up listening to the sound that was created by people that were are age...the thing is, we are just listening and replicating a sound for exactly the same reasons that all these kids wer, pissed off at other music etc...but they created something new and exciting and we really havnt done that.

Ontop of that the "thrash revival" consists of less then 30 bands worldwide that even stand a chance of lasting more then a few years, and im sure has not even a 3rd of the popularity.

We wont have any of the excitement untill we can create something new etc.. however there are to many posers in the thrash and new wave fan groups who think anything new (even if it is dam cool) will be far too Kerrang scene...so i dunno, we are doomed to plod along i think

(EDIT: also yes i was using burning churches as an extreme example and i do not support arson in anyway.

However we do live in a nanny state, no arguing with that and people will only party within the normal constraints these days due to being scared of laws)

"I meed sure they all knew that burning churches and shit was illegal but nobody these days wuld dare try it"

I think you only need to read that article I posted above to see that is not the case.

Do Metal fans go to gigs with guns and knives now then?[b]

Well yea...they do. Ive been to quite a few gigs where u can usually see em strapped to inside of a leg or something. Or more often then not bands carry them around, i remeber a band who threatened to cut up the promoter when he tried not to pay the band money, it was quite funny....

But fine you have each ripped apart my point, which despite the fact that you ripped it up -still makes perfect sense i think

You will have to tell me which venues you saw those weapons strapped to people's legs. I need to avoid them, as their security staff have an efficiency problem

I think the point about "scenes" is that they are ephemeral and influenced by trends. I have never had much interest in scenes, which tend towards being tribal, just listening to great music I enjoyed.

The early 90s was an interesting and exciting time, with lots of extreme and bizarre characters. However, I think I can find many more great releases now than back then.

usually places like bournemouth, southampton and portsmouth (obviously) but then Underworld has been one occasion and some other random London metal/punk venues.

I think Thrash needs a scene more then ever, it does need to get bigger and get a bigger fanbase. IF it doesnt then it will end up being the 20 so of us on this forum that see it through to the end and most of those people supposedly hate thrash anyway...crazy times.

There's nothing more to tell about the letters. They were pretty basic, half page affairs - straight to business stuff. He was obviously not great with English back then, and his writing was a bit of a scrawl.

I had a much more extended correspondence with guys like Samoth, especially during his prison sentence.

Somewhere i have an unpublished interview with samoth done while he was in prison that was going in our (terrorizer ian and mine's) zine, but it never did, i will have to find it out. Maybe he was acting hard in it, but i seem to remember he was pretty unrepentant!

I interviewed a few people who were from the norwiegen scene in the 90s, but all after all the shit. The most bizzare interview was with Satyr, who spent half the interview talking about football, particularly Liverpool, as they are who he supports

I also have copies of many original handwritten letters from euronymous, dead and hellhammer most of which are pretty boring TBH, although there was a lot of the "acting evil" stuff in a lot of them. What never fails to make me chuckle is the original outro to the deathcrush album (on the posercorpse label) whih sounded like chip n dale, but which was dropped for the DSP and subsequent pressings, presumably as it no longer fitted in with their "evil" image. :-k
