I disagree with that statement to the extent of having NEVER disagreed with anything more in my entire life.

We all know 80's Bay Area follows a particular formula. Many bands take (and still continue to take) the formula and churn out a Thrash album; whether it ends up a classic or not remains to be seen. Vio-lence, however, took the formula and bought it to the next level - a level which has never been surpassed. With quadruple the speed, quadruple the riffs and the ridiculous Sean Killian on vocals, an album like Eternal Nightmare was never done before. You think it's predictable? Have you listened to 'Seven Churches' recently? Better still, go back and listen to 'Bodies On Bodies' and THEN tell me it's predictable!

Where's the attitude and character of the album? Read the lyrics! Listen to the backing vocals! An album doesn't need to be creating "chaotic, morbid sounding protoype death metal" in order to have character.

The vocal style, I'll admitt, is an acquired taste. Some people genuinely can't stand Sean Killian. But then again, some people (including myself) can't tolerate Joey Belladonna so it's basically subjective and not an argument at all.

I haven't listened to Seven Churches in months. I listen to Eternal Nightmare 2-3 times a week on average. I expect we'll just have to agree to disagree on this on.

I'm listening to Eternal Nightmare now and whilst I respect your (wrong  ) opinion, this line annoyed the hell outta me:

Doesn't like Vio-lence, what a joke! wrote:For one, I'm really not a fan of this vocal style - the typical cheesy American style which I find hard to take seriously, although some of the chorus shouts are cool.

How is it typical? At all? It's very orignal! I'd rather hear Killian belting out lyrics in his super fast punkish rap kinda way of doing it than Tom Araya writing too many lyrics (*cough* Hell Awaits *cough) and barely keeping up. Eternal Nightmare pwns Seven Churches as good as that is.

It's on now!

Got to agree with Bane on the vocalist front seeing as I don't care for Joseph Bellardini either.

hehehe, I deliberately wrote that review to ruffle some feathers :D

I'll be the first to admit I'm no bay area nut, so I don't have a massive amount of patience listening to it maybe. But it was just the comment that it beat Seven Churches which prompted a response.

I have nothing against the album, I think it's very good. I just can't imagine sitting through it all 2-3 a month, let alone a week!

OI!

That's what makes Hell Awaits the best album ever!

Leave Tom and his silly lyrics alone, at least mention RiB, that has way more silly fast lyrics :P

But EN is awesome, in fact it's gonna be my bike-riding album of the day, going to work and back :D

I didn't think Araya got any writing credits for lyrics until South of Heaven?

Good skating music, Atom :rockdevil: Thrash is always the best! DRI is possibly the best....

Araya wrote some of the lyrics on Crypts of Eternity, thats the only song he gets any credit for on Hell Awaits!

The Drug Song.... I never knew that! :) I like it even more now!

Yeah, I can't remember where I found out what T.D.S. stood for. I think it was the Megaforce re-release of Eternal Nightmare although it could have been the Vio-lence board at which I never posted.

Seems every Metal Forum got a "overrated" Topic

And Everytime bands got mention about is those most selling albums ones,

So I guess here you guys will say the Whole Big 4 is overrated!

anwyay

Slayer is the most overrated in Big 4
anyway I still think they are GOD and got so much influence for Metal
but just TOO overrated

And
Reign In Blood is one of the most overrated cd in metal history!
Besides Angel of Death and Raining Blood,
the whole album sounds like the same!
Damn! Even those two songs is easily get old too!

Anthrax is my favorite
Their Spreading The Disease And Among The Living is untouchable 80 Thrash Classic!

Madhouse, Lone Justice, Medusa, I Am The Law, Indians, NFL
All CLASSIC!!!

And Persisten Of Time is one of the mad underrated album!
This album nearly flawless
In My World, H8 Red, Time, Blood and Belly Of The Beast is MAD Nice!!!

So that's no way that Anthrax got Overrated!!!

Testament are overated for sure!

I enjoy listening to Dark Angel but I can never differentiate between different tracks and therefore I don't know any song titles despite listening to them all the time

I would have said Slayer were overated a while back but I'm really getting into them at the moment.
Metal Iain wrote:This board has nothing to do with the 'scene'. It's more just about 10 or so pricks who used to like Thrash that, for one reason or another, waste a lot of time posting on here.
