Re: The Giving Pledge
Ahh not all are Bono. He still does things for a good cause. He's just a little annoying is all. He's not a wanker though.

Re: The Giving Pledge
Yeah, hating people just because they are rich is just jealousy talking. The kind of rich people who are wankers are the ones who run the kind of company I work for, who just fuck everyone else up the bum and rape them everyday for their money without actually having to do anything for them (also known as 'freehold management'). But a lot of successful wealthy people have worked hard to achieve their success and still give something back to society. You can't tar everyone with the same brush, that's basically being racist.
For example, Steve Harris is very rich, would you call him a wanker? No way, because he is marvellous. And I don't even know if he gives any money to charity. I bet he doesn't. But he doesn't need to, because Phantom of the Opera and Hallowed Be Thy Name have basically cured all diseases and poverty on the planet, David Cameron is just hiding the truth from us and trying to get money out of us.

Re: The Giving Pledge
OK, point taken about Steve Harris, and I'd take it back about the people on that list who won the lottery as well, seeing they can't really help it.
Of course they do, they have billions of pounds to spare and I don't.

Re: The Giving Pledge
Rich people in the UK get taxed a hell of a lot, 50% for those that earn £150,000 or more. That's £75,000 - probably more than I'll contribute to the country in the whole of my life.

Re: The Giving Pledge
As always with this shit, there are degrees of what we consider wanker-y and philanthropy. I can't say this rich-man shit enamours me at all but then I'm pretty unimpressed with my own efforts, innit.
I think 'The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists' I think neatly sums up my attitude to rich people and their efforts to help others. I think the only cunt that I find ok is Bill Gates because he does more than most countries (including his own) and he's not just throwing shitloads at his children.
That's my tupenny, anyway.

"And what about the churches and all their wealth
There's an unseen fortune under their belts
Are golden temples a symbol of God's way
This horde of wealth is a sickening display"
